I hope you had fun celebrating the 4th of July. We enjoyed time with family and friends, great food, time at the lake and fireworks! We were especially privileged to do this through the eyes of our 5 year old grandson who is making it very clear that he is almost done being 5. His birthday is this month and soon he will be 6 and in first grade. Sometimes it is exciting to get older!
Our country had a big birthday too. It was founded on notions of self determination and equality. We have had many challenges and made mistakes living that out as a nation. Yet in some neighborhoods, diverse and inclusive communities have worked well. Bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together in a way that values everyone. That is our goal at Hope & A Future. While our country looks back at the good and bad that has occurred over the past 250 years we want to remember the important ideas our founding fathers started with and we will continue to work toward them..
Our Hope & A Future community is walking into this month exploring exciting new opportunities for moving forward with our expansion. Some meetings have been set up and others are being organized. We have hope for our future and the people we will walk into it with! There is still work to be done, but we are making progress!
At our July 10th potluck and house concert, I will share a short reading from our book Hope & A Future: Where Generations Find Purpose Together. This book tells about our history and our ideals of purpose and belonging in this intentionally inclusive and diverse community. We believe that we can empower and encourage each other to live lives with self defined meaning. Already we have watched the synergy between the needs and strengths of young and old come together in beautiful ways. Here, seniors with physical and mental frailties live happy days while young people help them and work to figure out their own next steps. Life is a journey, best lived with others at our side!
We are excited to be exploring our next steps and grateful for the donations and pro bono support we have received. We are happy to say that we have matching grants that donations of all sizes can take advantage of. One step at a time the amazing Hope & A Future community is building a neighborhood that intentionally brings all generations together to find purpose. If you would like to join us, please come to our July 10th potluck, and consider volunteering and donating! We often hear that Hope & A Future has changed people’s lives for the better!
