Are you considering a pivot this year?  I am.

My family and I just returned from a brief holiday in Kansas City.  We went to see loved ones and the beautiful Kansas City Plaza lights.  We met up at Union Station to see a beautiful Christmas display and then went to Crown Center for food and shopping.  Later I made a big pot of spaghetti and welcomed everyone to our Vrbo.  We talked and ate and best of all, sang together. This family can sing what has been described as “next level harmonies”. We covered the age span from age 4 to 67 that day and it was wonderful.  A long time friend Steve was there melding his amazing guitar playing with Rick’s and Ruth played fiddle.  It was a beautiful and perfect day.  Until the freezing rain began to fall.  Guests had to leave early for safety sake.

The next morning, airplane flights were canceled as snow began to fall on top of a thick crust of ice.  Most of us ended up 15 to 20 minutes away from each other with closed roads separating us. To add insult to injury, Rick and I woke up with fevers and coughs.  So we spent the remainder of our trip inside.  We were with our daughters and grandson and there was fun to be had.  Just not the kind we had expected.  The city pretty much closed down.  The only businesses open that had food were Papa Murphy’s and the liquor store.  The liquor store was full service, so they had fruit and juice to offer!  We had games, instruments, a pool table and movies to watch and of course pizza. There was a lot of telephone calling and texting as we all figured out our next move. But, beyond a shadow of a doubt our beautiful day and evening together was worth the trip!

It was an adventure with a pivot.  And that is how we feel this January at Hope & A Future.  We still have a leap to make between where we are and where we need to be financially to start our next phase.  We are looking at our options for next steps. Our first phase has been worth the trip–beyond a shadow of a doubt.  Our purpose is to enhance the quality of life through innovative programs that promote wellbeing, reduce isolation, and build resilience across generations. By bridging the wisdom of older adults with the energy of younger generations, we create a supportive environment where everyone can achieve their fullest potential and contribute meaningfully to our community. Get a glimpse of what this looks like here with Leon’s invitation to color. It has taken a community of support and creativity to get this far and it will take a community of support and creativity to finish this pilot model.  We are so close!  We have helped many and we plan to help many more–creatively and intergenerationally!  Together we will find our path.  Please feel welcome to join us!

A heartfelt Thank You to everyone who has joined this journey with us!  Together, we will create a better tomorrow–for everyone!

My Best to You,

Karin

PS: I invite you to Celebrate!

January 20th is Martin Luther King Day. King was the chief spokesman for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement. He successfully protested racial discrimination in federal and state law. Let’s honor him and his work.

January 20th is also inauguration day.  I know there will be a peaceful transfer of power this year and I pray for citizens and politicians to support a more just and safe world.

January 29th is Chinese New Year which celebrates the end of winter and start of spring.  While we have a lot of winter to go, I think we will benefit from some colorful decorations, delicious food, beautiful outfits and entertainment!  Share your pictures with us!

Have fun and bless your neighbor!
